1. EAN-13 Structure & Country Prefix Breakdown

An EAN-13 barcode consists of 4 distinct numerical segments:

  1. GS1 Country Prefix (2-3 digits): Identifies the GS1 national organization where the company prefix was registered (e.g. 00-13 for US/Canada, 40-44 for Germany, 50 for UK, 890 for India).
  2. Company Number (4-6 digits): Unique manufacturer code issued by GS1.
